Tile Face.

Internet, forgive the smug expression, but I have done it. I have found and installed into my kitchen several hundred 2 inch by 6 inch tiles. In this town. BAM.
Tomorrow: Grout. THE END.

Y’all, I am almost there. The end is neeeeeear!
I am having tile cut into the size I want. I was inching into crazypants territory about getting exactly the right thing, and I can’t be worrying about it anymore. Thus, the backsplash goes in early next week. And then…WE REST.

What, like you never primed your kitchen floor with no shoes on.
Two things remain in the Great Kitchen Redo: 1) tile the backsplash, and 2) paint the floor. If you would read those two items aloud in your best Mr. Miyagi voice, Daniel-san, I would appreciate it.*
Despite a valiant effort and a near-foolproof plan, Evany and I were not able to secure 2 boxes of overstock Heath Tile for the backsplash. Evany and her intrepid boyfriend Marco trekked out to Sausalito on Saturday to see what they could find, and after several fruitless (but hilarious) phone conferences, we had to give up. It’s probably for the best, considering that if they had found something, Evany was instructed by the Heathens (!) to swaddle each individual tile in bubble wrap, then ship them to me via UPS. I could probably tile my backsplash in Swarovski crystals for fewer dollars.
So while I think up Tile Plan B, which includes finding somewhere, anywhere, in the continental US that carries 2″ x 6″ tile (WHY? WHY DON’T YOU HAVE ANY, MONROE?), I’ll be over here painting the floor and scouring your town for ceramic tile. Let me know if you find any down at the local quarry.

He has been here for two days straight, re-wiring our insanely wired kitchen. His name is Brian, and I adore him.
I have many new lights. Pictures to follow, as soon as I clean up this dang mess.

Also, he said headless photography was in his job description.
Pamie: How’s your kitchen?
AB: Almost there. I just need my tile hand-packed by Evany and shipped from San Francisco. Or whatever.
Pamie: Is Evany really doing that?
AB: She really is. She volunteered!
Pamie: You are making a pregnant lady do your bidding?
AB: She says Marco will do all the work. You’re just trying to make me sound crazy, like when Vince texted to tell me my pants from Italy were here.
Pamie: How are your Prague glasses coming?
AB: …
Fin

This chandelier came from my mother’s dining room, where it has been hanging for approximately 1000 years. I love it, and can’t wait to see it over our kitchen table!
My delightful electrician is also adding two pendant lights over our butcher block table, AND under-cabinet lights. It’s about to get fancy up in here, Internet.
PS. I am never sure which version of that word, imminent, to use. There are too many options.
Between this and Joanna Goddard’s engagement photos, what other choice do I have, I ask you?

I am having a bad mood. To cheer myself up I think I will purchase some Japanese masking tape.

Can you even stand it?

Now:
This picture features 2″ x 6″ tile.

I cannot, despite much garment-rending, decide between this size tile and 2″ x 8″ for the backsplash of my dreams. If I could find a picture of 2 x 8 tile besides the one that’s in my head, I would show it to you. As it is, I’m not sure if the above tile is 2 x 6 at all — I just took a guess. Regardless, I am interested in the kind of instant gratification that Flickr and Twitter can’t give me, as much as I love both of them. So I’m starting this baby back up on a trial basis. Hi!
Which tile would you pick?
Update: I just found this picture, which states that the tile is 2″ x 8″. Isn’t it the same tile as in the original picture I posted? Is it possible that I wanted 2″ x 8″ all along and was just too stupid to realize it? This could change everything!
